First chapter of the story meant to accompany my custom set is finally posted! This is one of the side stories following the original planeswalker characters, which are meant to provide info or show off moments that the real main characters of the story don't know about. It follows the monored walker Iggda Shieldbreaker as she arrives on Urates for the first time several years before the real story begins.

How it started:
Vs How it's going
Since the dragon AU stuff has gotten some eyes on it, I wanna talk about it a little more in depth. So dragon AU rambling below the cut:
I'm actually obsessed with them, my god.
I need to actually write a bit more for actual fic for them. But for now, let's just talk about some set-up stuff for ideas I have around this AU.
The general idea is this: Jon is a dragon, still gifted with the compulsion, and uses it to collect stories for his ever growing hoard of knowledge.
That's obviously going to get his ass kicked when people realize he's using some sort of weird magic on them, and exposing himself as a dragon could mean death. So, while dealing with a new injury to his wing which made travelling far more dangerous, but too stubborn to stay put for long, he begrudgingly accepts protection.
And unfortunately for Martin, a young knight who was the only person who would actually take the job, Jon needs quite a lot of it.
These boys absolutely consumed my brain, and I love them to pieces. Just rotating them around in my brain until they get dizzy, it's great.

Chemical Override (bonus chapter 4) - Above The Gods Eye
Ewan Mitchell x actress!reader
a/n: I had envisioned bonus chapters as not too integral to the main plot (as in, you will be able to follow the story without reading them), but this one... this one might just count.
series masterlist ▪︎ main masterlist
A series of moments from the vault, occurring in part eight of the story, now yours to enjoy. 🤍
The one with the second sons…
The photoshoot has wrapped, and the cast of House of the Dragon has drifted into all corners of the set, exchanging laughs in between much-needed sips of caffeine. The next item on Entertainment Weekly’s agenda is the video segment recordings, pairing cast members for various games and interviews.
Fabien and Freddie finished their narrative recap of season 2, with more jokes than actual informative recaps. Harry and Bethany played a game where they guessed whether the line is from House of the Dragon or Game of Thrones. Tom and Emma played a ‘which sibling' game, leaning into the dynamic between Aegon and Rhaenyra that clearly should have been explored in previous seasons.
As it happens, Matt and Ewan are paired up for an Aemond or Daemon game, meant to give the audiences a glimpse of what to look forward to. Their notorious rivalry, culminating in a battle that will be their last.
The two film their segment in Studio E, the set consisting of the great cellar of the Red Keep where Balerion’s massive skull looms on a pedestal. The dozens of candles surrounding it have been lit, casting dramatic shadows as they take their seats, facing each other in what could easily be mistaken for the start of a duel.
“My name is Ewan Mitchell and I play Aemond Targaryen,” Ewan starts.
“And I’m Matt and I play the Daemon Targaryen,” Matt follows. “And we’re about to play Second Sons: Aemond vs Daemon.”
“Let’s go,” Ewan rolls his shoulders, his sense of competitiveness all fired up, intensified by the fact that the man in front of him potentially could become his rival off-screen. That is, when it concerns the battle for your affections.
He can still hear it ringing in his ears, the sound of your laughter in the background, distracting him during the photoshoot. That laugh, so addictive, so yours, was a melody he could listen to forever - except when it’s Matt Smith who’s the culprit.
The lads take their cue to read the first prompt displayed on a screen above the camera. The game begins.
“Who is the better swordsman?” Matt reads aloud with a smirk. “Well, that’s obviously Daemon, mate. He’s older - ”
“Age doesn’t always mean better,” Ewan counters smoothly.
“Ah, but he’s battle-tested. He fought in the Stepstones, and was the Commander of the City Watch, for heaven’s sake. What’s Aemond got?”
“Aemond spent years and years training with Criston Cole in the Red Keep yard, honing his skill,” Ewan argues. “He clearly has the dedication. He’s disciplined.”
“Training,” Matt scoffs, turning to the camera as if sharing an inside joke. “Put Aemond out there in a real battle, then we’ll talk.”
“Alright, alright,” Ewan concedes, biting his cheek to keep from saying more. “Next one. Who’s the better dancer at the royal ball?”
Matt can’t help but chuckle, “Neither of us are inclined to - ”
“Yeah, I don’t know.”
“But if we had to pick, then I'd say Daemon. We saw him dancing in the first season, didn’t we?”
“I don’t think Aemond would be much of a dancer,” Ewan says, before adding with a smirk to the camera, “unless it’s with Vhagar.”
“Oh, yeah?” Matt asks him. “Short of dancing partners, is he? Can’t say I’ve got that problem. I’ve got Rhaenyra, I’ve got my daughters, and of course, the lovely Alyna.” His voice drops at the mention of your character, and he notices a telling flicker in Ewan’s expression. The younger boy latches on to it, hook, line and sinker.
Ewan’s brows scrunch, not missing the bait. “Oh, she wouldn’t dance with you,” flies out of his mouth before he can stop himself.
“Alyna wouldn’t?” Matt tilts his head, feigning hurt.
“She’s… she’s too busy fighting the war,” Ewan quickly musters. “She’s got better things to do.”
“Mate, I think we all are. But that wasn’t the question.”
“I just don’t think she - ”
“She’ll dance with Daemon,” Matt says confidently. “Once she realises how good he is, then it’s game over.”
“I disagree,” Ewan easily says to the camera, willing the viewers to side with him.
“Next,” Matt continues, “Who’s more likely to get into a fight at the tavern? Is this… so far, it's been all Daemon! This one too.”
Ewan nods, but adds slyly, “Aemond’s not one to waste his time at the tavern, no.” His answer is an apparent concession to Daemon, until he adds, “which is why Alyna would prefer to spend her time with him. He’s calmer… more reliable… no unnecessary tavern brawls or anything…”
“Calmer, mate?” Matt rolls his eyes, chuckling to himself. “Come off it, yeah?”
“Compared to Daemon, he clearly is.”
“He killed Luke and Rhaenys!”
“That was an accident,” Ewan shrugs. “He feels bad for it.”
“Alyna better steer clear,” Matt points to the camera, making his point.
Ewan shakes his head in protest, “I don’t agree.”
“So, for this one, again, it’s Daemon,” Matt finishes.
Ewan lets it go, the Alyna comment lingering in the back of his mind. It didn’t seem like an Alyna reference; it felt like a message to you. His stomach twists, suspicious of the other game Matt seems to be playing at. Turning to the prompter, Ewan reads, “Who’s got… the better hair care routine? Oh wow.”
“Daemon’s been at some dingy castle,” Matt says, “clearly no showers there. Forget it.”
“Aemond’s got this locked down,” Ewan grins.
“Has he? Alright then,” Matt responds, amused. “He does have that pin-straight hair, doesn’t he? It’s almost like… well it’s almost like it’s a bloody wig!” He laughs, and some of the onlookers behind the camera mirror the sentiment.
“I did read somewhere about Aemond having a 20-step hair care routine… ”
“20 steps? Blimey, mate. I’m surprised he even makes it out the door,” Matt says. “Would you say he’s got better hair than the women on the show? Than Alicent or Alyna maybe?”
“Oh,” Ewan leans back, mulling it over. How to one-up Matt without making it seem too obvious? He’s about to respond, when he hears some soft giggling in the corner. It appears that you’ve made your way into Studio E with Phia and Liv. The sound came from Phia, who gives him a thumbs up when she notices his diverted attention.
Matt notices your presence too, and when the director waves a hand for them to carry on, he answers for Ewan, “We could say Aemond has the better hair. Alyna’s way too busy training with Daemon anyway. We do tend to get into that rough and tumble during our sword fights.”
“Mmm,” Ewan narrows his eyes. He then ignores or conveniently forgets the fact that it’s Matt's turn to read the next question. “Who’s more likely to fight a dragon for their lover?”
The two men lock eyes, the air between them charged, more so due to your appearance. If a rivalry is what the viewers expect, then that is what they’ll get.
Matt puts a hand up. “I think Daemon’s the one with the guts to fight a bloody dragon. Daemon will stand against anything and anyone. Without a doubt.”
“It’s different with him, though, isn’t it?” Ewan responds. “Daemon would be doing it for the glory. He’d be doing it for himself. Whereas Aemond… he’d be doing it out of pure devotion.”
“Are you talking about the same devotion he had for his brother? I’d say he’s more likely to burn his lover to a crisp, than fight a dragon for her.”
“There is a completely different dynamic with his brother,” Ewan explains. “I think that when Aemond falls in love, there is nothing at all that he wouldn’t do for them. In season 2, we already kind of saw him leaning into this reputation of being the most wanted man in the realm. So… he’d fight anything for his lover, that’s for sure. He’d burn the seven kingdoms down if necessary.” He turns to look at the camera, but he catches your eye instead. You’re shaking your head slightly at his answer, but the small smile that graces your lips tells him that you enjoyed it.
He simpers at your apparent show of approval, but Matt cuts the shared moment short.
“I think Aemond’s a young buck,” Matt says, “who’s desperate to make his mark. He wouldn’t know the first thing about devotion. But Daemon… that’s been his internal struggle this whole time. He’s proven that he stands behind his brother and Rhaenyra, no matter how much he tries to act to the contrary. But yeah, we’re going a bit off track here. What was the question? Who’d fight a dragon… ”
“For their lover,” Ewan finishes. “I would still say Aemond. Daemon is too unpredictable.”
“Of course you’d say that,” Matt wags his eyebrows at him. “But I’m standing by my answer. We clearly saw Daemon basically pledge himself to Rhaenyra in the last episode. What more proof do you need?”
“Aemond’s got something up his sleeve,” Ewan says. “He just wants to be loved, that’s it, and when he finds that, there’ll be no question of what he’s capable of doing for Al - ” He catches himself at the last second, before he fully lets slip your character’s name. “I mean - ”
Matt’s eyes light up, sensing an opportunity. “For Alys, you mean?” To the camera, he adds, “spoiler alert, everyone.”
“Right,” Ewan lets out a breath, “Of course.”
“Can’t be anyone else,” Matt challenges him.
“I don’t know for now,” Ewan tries to keep up.
“You currently have a bit of a lack in the lover department,” Matt smirks.
Ewan narrows his eyes at the apparent insinuation. He better be referring to the show. “Fine, then, we can give this one to Daemon. But as to their real-life counterparts,” he locks eyes with you again, “who’s to say? I bet I have this in the bag.”
Matt follows his line of sight, pleased when your attention switches to him. “I think that’s yet to be decided.”
“Alright, we’ve got some more,” Ewan quickly says, in an attempt to divert Matt’s gaze from you.
Matt reads, “Who’s more likely to maintain a good social media presence? Oh, bloody hell, we’re crossing over into uncharted territory with this one.”
“That’s interesting.”
“I’ve never touched it myself,” Matt shrugs. “I’m not on anything, only Facebook for a moment ages ago, but I did not have any desire in going back. Oh wait, we’re meant to answer for our characters. Apologies.”
“Hmm,” Ewan nods. “I don’t know if Aemond would be on social media, no.”
“Yeah, this is a weird question,” Matt says. “Maybe Daemon then? But only to post pictures of Caraxes or something. What do you think?”
“Yeah, Daemon can take this one,” Ewan replies. “Personally, I’m not on social media too much - ”
“But didn’t you jump into the fray recently? With… which one was it?”
“Instagram? Yeah, yeah, that was something.” His mind flashes back to the pictures he had up, both attesting to his love for you. But you had asked him to take the latest one down, which led him to deactivate the account altogether. Temporarily. If the fans assumed that the action was meant to symbolise an end of his involvement with you, then now would be the perfect opportunity to prove them wrong. “I did have to take a step back, because it was kind of overwhelming. I just needed to take some proper time off.”
“Oh really? I wouldn’t know,” Matt says. “Did you actually share some photos there?”
Ewan smiles, pleased at being able to answer this question. “Yeah, I shared a few of my most treasured ones. They were some great pictures, but I’ve got loads more of the same in my phone, and I - ” He throws a warning glance to the camera “ - I think I’ll be keeping those to myself for now.”
Matt, oblivious as to what he’s hinting at, reads the next one. “Who’s the better brother?”
“Aemond for sure.”
“Clearly Daemon.”
And so the banter continues for a couple more prompts, sharp yet flowing naturally, foreshadowing the frenzied fan reactions when the segment is shared online for all to see.
The one where Ewan needs his cowgirl…
Ewan paces around his dressing room, settling into his outfit, awaiting his cue from set. The outfit is a bold mix of traditional Western elements and high fashion: a tailored deep brown leather jacket with intricate embroidery, a crisp white shirt with ruffled cuffs, fitted trousers, and a wide-brimmed cowboy hat. His boots click against the wooden floor as he moves. He’s nervous but determined to impress you, even though it’s always been you with a knack for making his heart race.
After a while, he makes his way out of the dressing room and into the bustling set. The set is decked out to the theme. The director and crew are scattered all around, but Ewan focuses solely on finding you.
When he finally does, his world seems to slow down. You are standing near a vintage saddle, dressed in your own Western-inspired attire. Your smile is radiant as you speak to your assistant, and the way your eyes light up when you see him makes his heart skip a beat. No, it never gets old, he realises, you will always have a maddening effect on him.
He takes a deep breath, squaring his shoulders, and saunters over with as much swagger as he could muster. “Howdy, darling,” he greets in his best cowboy lilt.
You look him up and down with a smile. “Why, hello, good sir,” you say, even doing a playful curtsy.
“Ready to give them a show?” he asks, gesturing to the expanse of the set. Ready to be my cowgirl, darling? He wants to ask instead.
You hum a response. “As I’ll ever be. I’d say you’re a natural at this whole cowboy thing.”
“Oh, darling,” he smirks, “you’d be surprised by what I can do with my lasso.”
“Down, Mitchell.”
“Whatever you want, my cowgirl.”
The atmosphere is electric throughout the shoot, with Ewan constantly leaning down to whisper suggestive lines in your ear.
He finds himself getting lost in the intensity of the shoot, but his focus remains on you. It isn’t as if you are making it easy on him, with your lingering touches and flirtatious remarks.
The camera's shutter clicks away, and Ewan and you pose for one perfect shot after another. The set is alive with activity, but he only sees you, the lighting casting a warm glow on your rouge-stained cheeks. Forgetting where he is for a moment, his hand reaches up to caress your face, and he leans in slightly.
You pose accordingly, likely thinking that he’s just giving the shoot what it demands.
“What was that you were saying about a lasso?” you smirk, in an attempt to diffuse the tension, but it only spurs him on.
“Care for a demonstration?” he shoots back.
“Why not?” you reply easily, adjusting your stance.
“We may need a more intimate setting for that, darling.”
“More intimate than this?” you laugh breathlessly, the warmth of it fanning his face. He’s close enough that the tip of his nose brushes against yours.
He smiles, deaf to the low warning that escapes your lips when he leans in for a kiss on instinct.
Just as his lips are about to graze yours, the director’s voice cuts through the charged silence.
“Cut! Break, everyone!”
The spell is broken instantly. Ewan pulls back, his expression shifting from one of intense concentration to surprise and a hint of frustration.
You stand facing each other, flustered and left wanting. Ewan wants nothing more than to just reach for you and pull you in a closet, and show just how well he can use that bloody lasso. If you want him to. But he forces himself to croak, “To be continued, darling?”
You mirror his heated gaze, nodding once, before turning on your heel and heading to the break room.
When the set is mostly emptied, Ewan picks up the hefty lasso that’s been put aside. With a determined look on his face, he swings it expertly through the air, causing a resounding thwack. The movement is deliberate, a release of his frustrations about you. About Matt. About everything.
But it doesn’t quite bring him the relief he needs, because only you can offer that.
It’s only ever been you.
The one with the first date…
You glance at your phone to check the time, heart fluttering with anticipation. Matt had promised to pick you up at 2, and it is only a minute past, but you’re already standing nervously in your living room. Not a moment too soon, your buzzer alerts you of his arrival, and you press the button to allow him upstairs.
You sneak one more glance at the mirror, smoothing a hand over your t-shirt and jeans. You opted for a casual look, dressed up with some jewelry and heeled boots.
Finally, there’s a knock at the door and you grab your purse as you walk up to meet your awaited visitor.
There he is, standing in the doorway, as impossibly charming as ever. Matt’s dressed in a perfectly fitted black shirt, the sleeves rolled up to his elbows, revealing strong forearms, paired with staple dark jeans. His tousled hair looks like he ran a hand through it on his way over, and his signature mischievous grin plays at the corners of his mouth as he takes you in.
“Hello there,” he greets cheerfully.
“Hey, Smithy,” you blush under his gaze.
“You look absolutely incredible,” he says, his gaze sweeping appreciatively over you, “As can be expected. You are my Alyna, after all.”
“Thanks,” you manage to say, your voice soft, almost breathless. “You don’t look too bad yourself.”
“Glad to hear it. I was worried I’d underdressed,” he teases, though the way he carries himself shows that he knows exactly how good he looks. He steps a little closer, his hand lightly grazing your arm as he does.
“You ready to go?” he asks, his voice just a shade deeper, his eyes locked on yours with an intensity that still catches you off guard, no matter how exposed you have been to his charms.
“Yeah,” you nod, suddenly aware of how close you’re standing, the air between you thick with tension. “Let’s do this.”
The late afternoon air is crisp as you walk with Matt down a quiet street near Hyde Park. The anticipation from earlier has settled into something more relaxed, yet there’s still an undercurrent of excitement, an unspoken awareness of the new territory you’re both navigating.
Matt leads you to a small café tucked away from the bustle of the city. It’s quaint, with ivy creeping up the walls and soft lights glowing through the windows. As you step inside, the rich aroma of coffee and freshly baked pastries envelops you, and you can’t help but smile. The interior is just as charming as the exterior, and a few patrons sit scattered throughout, each absorbed in their own worlds. Too absorbed to notice two somewhat renowned actors entering the premises.
“Pick a spot,” Matt says, his hand gently brushing the small of your back. The touch is fleeting, but it’s enough to send a warm tingle up your spine.
You choose the table with a view of the park just beyond the glass. Ever the gentleman, Matt pulls out a chair for you before settling into the one across from you.
“Hope you like this place,” he says, his tone easy and genuine. “It’s one of my favourites. Feels like a bit of an escape from everything, you know?”
“It’s perfect,” you reply, taking in the cozy atmosphere. “I can see why you come here.”
A waitress comes over to take your order, and Matt gives you his recommendations which you happily go along with. The familiar way with which she addresses him as Mr. Smith confirms his frequent visits. Once she leaves, you lean back in your chair, letting yourself relax into the moment, though you are aware of his eyes watching you the entire time.
“So, how are you finding the city? It’s different from set life, that’s for sure.” Matt asks, his eyes studying you with a mix of curiosity and something deeper. Something you can’t pinpoint just yet, though it’s not unfamiliar. You’ve seen that look before. From Ewan. The sudden thought of him drives a wedge in your focus, and you have to shake it off before you answer.
“It’s been great,” you say, smiling. “It’s nice to be able to explore it more this time around, since I've got some downtime. And, of course, the company’s been pretty good too.” You add the last part with a playful tone, which makes him chuckle.
“Oh, I’m sure it has,” he replies, a teasing glint in his eye. “But don’t let Ewan monopolise all your time. I’m around if you ever need a break from him.”
The mention of Ewan brings a subtle shift in the conversation. It’s light, but there’s a hint of something more - an awareness of the connection you share with Ewan that both complicates what you have, or what you could have, with Matt.
“You’re a good friend, Matt,” you say, your tone still light but more sincere. “I appreciate that.”
He nods, a small smile playing on his lips, though there’s a flicker of something in his eyes. “Friend, sure,” he says, his voice low and smooth. “But, just so you know… I’m here, if you ever want more than that.”
It’s a simple statement, but the weight of it hangs in the air between you. He’s not pressing, not trying to make you uncomfortable, but it’s clear that he’s laying his cards on the table. Matt’s always had a way of being direct without being pushy, and this moment is no different.
You meet his gaze, feeling the sincerity behind his words. There’s a part of you that’s tempted, drawn in by the way he makes you laugh and feel seen. But there’s something - someone - holding you back.
“I’ll keep that in mind,” you reply, smiling softly.
Matt nods again, his smile resurfaces, as sure as the sun rising. “That’s all I ask.”
The waitress returns with your coffee and pastries, breaking the tension with the clink of cups and the sweet scent of buttery croissants.
After a moment, Matt takes a sip from his own cup and raises an eyebrow. “You know, I heard that drinking coffee in a café like this can increase your charm significantly. I think it’s working, do you?”
You play along, pretending to consider this. “Hmm, I don’t think you need help in that department. But… I’ll still be careful. Just in case you charm me into agreeing to a second date.”
Matt leans closer with a grin. “Second date? Love, if I’m being honest, I’m already planning our third date.”
The conversation shifts back to lighter topics - your favourite places in the city, funny stories from the set, and his many revealing anecdotes about Fabien. Like the one where he got properly sloshed after a night out at the pub, so much so that he stuck some croissants in his washing machine thinking it was the oven.
“To his defense,” Matt exclaims as you giggle uncontrollably, “the two appliances are similarly shaped!”
As the date progresses, you feel undeniably warm and comfortable in Matt’s presence, but you also can’t ignore the lingering thoughts of Ewan. Your phone had buzzed at some point, and when you snuck a glance at the screen, it lit up to reveal three missed calls from Ewan One-Eye. He knows you’re on a date, so he must be interrupting on purpose. Thankfully, Matt’s enthusiastic regaling keeps you from lingering on Ewan - from worrying about him, missing him… from wishing that he could freely allow himself to take you on a date just like this.
As you and Matt stroll back to your apartment, the city lights cast a warm glow on the pavement, creating a magical backdrop for the end of your evening. His arm around your shoulders brings you a sense of ease, and you no longer feel that nervous flush as earlier.
He walks with you inside your building, and when you reach the door to your apartment, Matt pauses by the entrance, turning to face you with a gentle smile. “Well, this has been quite the evening,” he says. “I’m really glad we got to do this.”
You return his smile. “Me too. It’s been a lovely night.”
There’s a moment of hesitation, a shared look that speaks volumes without words.
“Well, I - ” you swallow, your nerves returning, “I better head inside.”
As you reach for your keys, Matt’s hand gently wraps around yours, causing a jolt of electricity to travel up your arm. “Before you do,” he says, his voice dropping to a husky whisper, “there’s something I’ve been wanting to do all night.”
You look up at him. Screw your newfound sense of ease. Your heartbeat now pounds in your ears like an erratic drum. “Oh? And what’s that?” But something tells you that you know just what he means.
Without breaking eye contact, Matt leans in slowly, his face drifting closer.
“This,” he mumbles the word as if it's the most obvious thing in the world. And then his lips touch yours.

Some notes in the margins...
This poll caused quite the stir amongst yous, I see. Consider me amused. Since part 9 isn't out yet, and my mind isn't set either - if you've got something to let off your chest, some supporting arguments, you've got one more chance to let me know below (or let each other know) 😉 I always read all your opinions, and they are properly taken into account. What did you think of Matty after this?
When Ewan called her at the end of part eight, do you think she had company? Anyway, something sweet is coming in part nine with Ewan and his darling!
To those who are seriously worried about the outcome, note that is and always has been a Ewan x reader fic. I am a Ewan girl just like yous. Hold fast and have fun on the wild ride, darlings 💙

Can you explain why Claudia is so upset with Terry when they reunite after he leaves? And why Terry, of all people, looks so guilty with her that he can't even look her in the eye? It's one of those things where you know this should all be reversed, but isn't. Why? Why is the betrayer so hostile to the betrayed?
God I loved the messy as fuck whatever they had going on Claudia and Terry dynamic in S7, and I think there's a few reasons why
One of the cruxes of Claudia's character is that she is attached to seeing herself as a good person, and others as not-good by comparison. This means that she can engage in the exact same behaviour and justify it while assuming that others' reasonings couldn't possibly measure up.
This cognitive dissonance is not exclusive to Claudia (Callum and Rayla in particular have a tendency to justify each other's choices in ways they don't with other characters, i.e. Rayla viewing dark magic use being 'evil' except when Callum is using it and he's the 'goodest' person she knows) but the focus on 'my view of myself' largely is. Most other characters in TDP are focused on "I still view this other person as a good person," not being focused on "I view myself as a good person". But Claudia is, and it's this core desire being increasingly pitted against "I will do vile, awful things to keep my family together" that are constantly duking it out.
When Claudia finds Soren and Terry waiting for her, it's clear that not only has Terry joined her brother, but has turned against her (as he could've left and then just fucked off somewhere else). This association with Soren, I think, is one of the things that gets her haunches raised, since Soren made it very clear what he thinks the last time they saw one another in 4x07:
SOREN: You have to stop trying to release the greatest evil this world has ever known. CLAUDIA: I knew you wouldn't understand.
All Claudia hears is "there's something wrong with you." That she's the bad guy and on the Wrong side (which, to be fair, Soren also calls her and Viren bad humans when trying to wake Rex Igneous in 4x09). And, by extension, that Soren is better than her. More correct, more moral, more Right.
And Claudia cannot stand feeling judged. She cannot stand being treated like 'the bad guy' (because of course from her perspective, everything she does is right) and she struggles to hold a conception of "I did something genuinely wrong and can still be a good person" (see: "We're not going to the dungeons Soren, we didn't do anything wrong") usually leaning into one or the other, and normally the latter.
So Terry being with Soren is also "you think I'm wrong, you think I'm bad, and you think you're Better than me" (vs Aaravos' "believed we could be better, so he gave us magic"). She thinks the pair are there to stop her, and she's not wrong, on a certain level.
So when Soren makes a gesture of good will, openly contingent on Terry wanting to spare her ("You're here to save me? How generous [...] I can change, and you will help me. Did I get everything?" Karim vibes), it's just seen as "you're showing off how/why you think you're Better than me" and was, quite frankly, never going to work.
Soren setting down his sword came closer, as it's more reciprocal, and it also symbolizes Soren setting down his mantle/duty (the same sword that killed Viren the first time, presumably). But Soren makes another mistake; the same mistake he made in 4x07:
Dad is dead, Claudia. You don't have to do what he wants anymore.
Set down your staff, Claudia. Dad's staff.
But while Claudia has been doing stuff for Viren, she hasn't done what he wanted in a long time. She's been doing what she wants ("You are not letting go, Dad!") for a hot second, and now alongside Aaravos. (I need to write a scene on her and Aaravos' talk in 7x06, but that's for another day.) And that has included taking down elves and dragons as a whole (and any elf that doesn't help her) for a while.
The dragons and the elves, all the arrogant fools blinded by the searing light of their own self-righteousness.
They are wrong, and she and Aaravos are right ("So much we can make right"). This is a very black-and-white viewpoint in many ways, one that some characters are faster as dismantling than others, but I have no doubt that Arc 3 will push it to its breaking point for all of them. Soren and Terry have thrown in their loyalties with the elves and dragons, since Terry was previously a "good elf Exception" alongside Aaravos because they were both helping her and, as previously discussed, Terry has now turned against her, and all the baggage Claudia carries about such a thing is now dumped onto him by proxy (which Terry doesn't necessarily know or understand).
So what does he look so guilty over?
Honestly? The illusion plan. I'm sure he's worried that Claudia might get hurt, and that things might escalate / go south, but he is ultimately there with a plan that is not what he wanted. What Terry wanted was to find the real Lissa and give Claudia a real chance to connect with her mother and maybe change her ways. But it's not real. It's deception, and he knows it.
TERRY: You lied to me! AARAVOS: I never lie. I simply said we needed a big feather and a very small feather. That is all. TERRY: No. You say you never lie, what you do is worse. You tell people half-truths and let people fill in the rest. You make people lie to themselves. It's deception. It's manipulation, and it's wrong.
She betrayed him, and now in his own way he's betraying her.
So what makes him decide to turn around and do something... similar, shall we say? There's a few things. The first is that they're on a time limit and have no way to reach Lissa. The second is that it's plausible the others were going to do it anyway, and Terry accompanied them because 1) he couldn't stop them, 2) he felt responsible, and 3) hoped that his presence would make a positive difference to Claudia.
The second is the other half of what Aaravos says to Terry, I think.
TERRY: I'll tell Claudia. AARAVOS: Oh, it will change nothing. She loves me. [...] And what of Claudia, then? She knows so much more than she tells you, and she keeps it that way to protect you.
Now, Terry rightfully understands that Claudia wasn't keep things from him to protect him; she did it to use him and to keep him from leaving ("I knew he'd leave once he found out"). However, Terry being willing to live in a half-truth and employ one on Claudia because he genuinely believes it will help her, because he thinks it's a truth he needs to withhold to protect her ("You have to promise me that no harm will come to Claudia" is most easily kept if she backs down)... that I can believe, especially since it lets him believe that she's capable of change/quitting. He wants to Save her, not use her.
That doesn't mean he thinks it won't Hurt.

DRAGONBORN
VS ORC
WELCOME TO THE SEMI FINALS!
First is Dragonborn! So many looks, all without tails. They're tall, averaging about 6-7 ft (1.8-2.1 m), and tend to be strong as a default. They're loyal, proud, hold family highly, and have a similar lifespan to humans (though they mature far faster). They also breathe and resist the element of the dragon they resemble, so you've got some options if temperature play's your thing. Note that their body temperature actually runs a bit hotter than a human's, and apparently they have ridged dicks in the BG3 character creator!
Next is the orc! 6 ft (1.8 m) tall and naturally beefy, enhanced by a love of fighting and wrestling. 5e orcs are either green or greyish blue depending on the setting/location, this one being grey. Meaning it's one of the extraplanar invaders from planet orc, who chilled out quickly because they don't have to deal with constant messages from the gods. Don't worry about it. I don't think I need to explain what an orc is. Whatever you're thinking is probably accurate.

Then vs. Now
tagged by @ubejamjar, thank you <3
i'll pass it along to... @verysmallcyborg @idalenn @ahollowgrave @selnyam @sylaurin @sasslett
I think I had poked around at a couple of the settings before, but this was the first time I took a Proper Gpose, in March 2020.
Compared with tonight in December 2024:
...gods, where do I even start for the differences lol.
switched jobs, going from wanting to heal to bulking up and taking on martial jobs like dark knight, monk, and viper
like actually bulking up, her customize+ scaling looks so natural to me now that skinny peeled Ellie looks so off lol. it's not a huge difference but it's noticeable.
found out how to give her muscle, those arm dragon tattoos, an Archon mark, and arm/leg hair. the tattoos were a joke at first because it's year of the dragon and i'm a dragon in the chinese zodiac, but errrr oops i'm too used to them now. and they look sick.
her highlights changed to black (with a swerve into white for ShB), her facemark changed to match her hair color, and some of her face shapes were different, but she was always face 2 with this skintone and hair color. really nailed that right off the bat.
she was just my avatar in this online RPG back then. it'd take a year or two, probably after beating 5.3, when I'd start thinking about her as an actual character. And now I have an idea of how much she's grown, how much she's lost, what she's gained, how many women she's managed to smooch--
she's on tumblr now, which has also been a great way to meet so many cool wols and their amazing players and i'll forever be grateful for those opportunities and the friends i've made. <3
...if any of y'all ever want to play with ellie i've got mare files i can lend >.>
#tag games#my ocs: ellie wiltarwyn#ffxiv gpose#sometimes i think about how this game literally changed my life and how even when it gets dull gpose breathes new life into it#and i go “huh.”#idk it's the holidays/almost my birthday i'm in a weird Thinking About Stuff mood

Note: The propaganda contains spoilers for Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia.
I WON'T LET YOU GO HOME:
siffrin.
1. It ties in recurring melodies from all throughout the soundtrack 2. It perfectly sets the mood for the scene and feels climactic 3. I cannot explain how much this song emotionally impacts you if you've played the game 4. It's just such a good song 5. Siffrin
Twilight of the Gods:
this is the absolute perfect final boss theme of all time. the choir absolutely makes it feel like a monumental battle is taking place and the orchestra is simply divine
One of the best final boss themes in fire emblem
You kill dragons on this music; and dragons are considered gods in most FE games.

Gods vs Dragons Custom Plane & Set
Because I'm a fool I decided that I'd try getting into custom set design again. The plan is to do multiple sets depending on how this goes, all of which would be in unique planes and ignore the actual canon mtg story and characters for the most part, and this is post is an introduction to the first one of those I'm working on. Also please note this is all subject to change. I don't even have a name for the plane yet, so a lot of this may shift over time as I work.
Concept- A plane where early in its history there was a massive plane-wide war between a pantheon of ten gods, and ten elder dragons. Five of each died, leaving the allied color pair gods, and the enemy color pair dragons. Now thousands of years later the remaining god and dragons feel a pull towards war just as a mortal body is pulled downward towards the earth.
Plot- A courier is dispatched by the WG aligned god to tell the other gods and their servants that one of the elder dragons in amassing an army and he can resist the mysterious compulsion no longer. He will take to the field of battle once more, and the plane will know war for the first time in five thousand years. On his journey the courier will meet a variety of companions from all walks of life, and see the tragedy of a conflict none of them can truly understand.
Mechanics- One of the major ideas in the plot is that everything has been shaped by the past, so I naturally decided a graveyard matters theme fit. I didn't want to really do recursion or casting from the graveyard though since that felt like it wouldn't work thematically with the characters being unable to change the past or go back to it. So instead, I chose mechanics which put cards in the graveyard, and then made a new one that's essentially a variant of Threshold or Delirium type effects. Actual mechanics are Cycling, Exploit, Explore, and Legacy (new).
Status- 85/101 common cards have a first draft at the moment. My plan is to finish those then do a round of commons only playtesting to see if things are actually fun. Depending on how that goes I'll adjust mechanics, specific cards, etc then make some of the uncommons before doing another playtest and adjustment.
For info like specifics on the gods and dragons, new planeswalkers, and planned draft archetypes, check below the cut!
The Gods- Right now I don't have actual names for them, just concepts for their personality, domains, roles.
WU Goddess of the Moon, Reflection, and the Past. She was the twin sister of the sun god (similar to Artemis and Apollo), but he died in the first war. Key traits are pensive, slow to act, solitary. I thought the color scheme and general symbolism of time and phases of the moon would be a good fit for the WU goddess I knew I needed.
UB God of Knowledge, Subterfuge, Strategy. A trickster figure who barely survived the first war. Key traits are mysterious, subtle, jovial. This is the one I'm most unsure of. Canon magic has had both Phenax who shares the exact same color identity, and Valki, both of which are similar conceptually. I think the more benevolent angle differentiates them, but it's still a concern
BR Goddess of the Forge, Fire, and Independence. She's very much themed around the idea of forging (pun intended) your own way in life, making things the way you want them to be, and refusing to back down. Key traits are gruff, unflappable, focused on the future. Black and red are both colors that focus on the individual and living the life you want regardless of the cost, and the forge seemed to work thematically since you are literally reshaping the metal, and creating something unique and personal from it.
RG Goddess of Fertility, Love, and Family. The most reluctant to go to war, she does not want to risk losing her remaining siblings. She's also the first god I came up with, before I even knew what I wanted the set to be about. Key traits are maternal, wise, protective. Normally because mtg is so combat focused Red's focus on emotion takes the form of anger, but it's also the color of love and excitement, which combines with Green's sense of community to make for a figure dedicated to familial relationships, and nurturing the world
WG God of Law, Structure, and Tradition. He's the deity most involved in mortal affairs, literally acting as the god king of a country, and also the one who has prepared the most for the possibility of war. White and Green both care about order, whether it's the natural order, or laws and taboos set by society, so a god who represents that seemed like a cool idea and something I don't think we've seen before in mtg.
The Elder Dragons- Similar to the gods, I don't have names for them yet, but do have an idea of what their broods and followers are like, and their role in the story.
WB Dragon, a schemer, and social Darwinist. He believes that the right of the powerful to rule over the weak ought not be impugned. Key traits are ruthless, manipulative, opulent. White is obviously the color of structure and rules, while black is the color that subverts those the most, so a system where the WB Dragon lords over its subjects with strict rules while it, its brood, and its favorite servants are protected but not bound by those laws is a natural fit.
BG Dragon, an explorer and isolationist. He travels the world in mortal form, living the simple life he wants while attracting a group of devoted disciples. He just wants to appreciate the beauty of the natural world, and be left alone by the gods and other dragons so he can do his own thing without interruption. Key traits are meditative, detached, and the black sheep. Here the focus on nature and community we see in green mixes with the seemingly contradictory part of Black that cares about itself above all other. Together they result in someone who cares deeply about their in-group, and their personal relationship to the world but ignores what happens to outsiders.
UG Dragon, a philosopher and polymath. He seeks to understand the world above all else, and to that end takes on apprentices to study and research under him, but now finds himself compelled by a force he can't explain to once again go to war. Key traits are curious, intelligent, and conflicted. Blue cares about knowledge and self mastery, and Green cares about the natural world so I ended up going with the familiar idea of him seeking to understand and iterate upon nature. In this case though I've leaned more towards making them a sage, and philosopher instead of going with the more explicitly science-y theme we see in Simic and Quandrix.
UR Dragon, a collector and aesthete. She wants it all. Everything is so endlessly beautiful and fascinating that she wants to own it all. She maintains a massive hoard, and even "collects" other living beings including humans to become part of her menagerie of creatures. Crucially, she's not malicious, and just sees mortals as akin to particularly interesting pets. Key traits are obsessive, condescending, and artistic. The central conflict between Blue and Red is that of knowledge versus impulse. This dragon resolves that conflict by being endlessly fascinated by things, but lacking focus, flitting from interest to interest like a humming bird to flowers.
WR Dragon, a zealot and general. She believes that the pull towards war they all feel is yet more evidence that the dragons in some sense have a sacred duty to kill the gods or die in battle trying. For thousands of years she has prepared her forces to seek vengeance for her dead siblings, and it seems as though the time is finally right. Key traits are faithful, furious, and glory seeking. White and Red are the military colors most of the time so this isn't a surprise and I honestly don't have a ton to say about the decision to lean into that direction since it's the most obvious one.
Planeswalkers- Like I mentioned in the first paragraph, I wanted to avoid using canon mtg characters so I knew I'd need new planeswalkers. In the end I decided to follow in the foot steps of Lorwyn and introduce five monocolor walkers who play relatively minor roles in the story of the set. In WUBRG order they are:
Trivain Lecot- A human knight whose magic is focused on increasing his and his allies' effectiveness in battle, enchanting weapons and armor, rallying forces, etc. He has an ucompromising sense of right and wrong like you might expect which can make him dangerous to those who fall outside of his understanding of morality.
Gr'Liz- A homonculus who has no magic on their own, but is an expert at stealing and copying the spells of others, adding them to their own collection for later. This plane is the first they've planeswalked to, and they're filled with wonder and curiosity. However, they are not always aware of the consequences their quest for spells and other knowledge may cause.
Neris Autor- A vampire naturally specializing in blood magic, and mind manipulation. He's a hedonist who cares only about doing whatever he thinks might be pleasurable and unique on new plane, fully embracing the philosophy of "eat, drink, and be merry, for tomorrow you may die" regardless of the problems that causes for other.
Iggda Shieldbreaker- A human warrior with a hulk-like berserker state. She's very in touch with her emotions by necessity, and devoted to the cause of rebelling against tyranny across the multiverse. Her whole life she's been forced to be violent and strong to survive. Though she wishes she could be something like an artist living a simple life she knows she can never give up fighting for her ideals.
Erelli Cantorwill- A human noble whose powers make her the archetypal Disney princess capable of calling wild animals to come serve her. She cares a lot about tradition and preserving the natural world, but frequently comes off as haughty because of this. She currently travels from plane to plane gathering the local beasts and monsters for an as of yet unknown purpose.
Planned Draft Archetypes- Okay so for those of you who may not know, each set is built to support different strategies in draft formats, normally one for each two color pair. In this set at the moment they are
White/Blue Legacy control
Blue/Black Exploit aristocrats
Black/Red Artifact/equipment
Red/Green Legacy ramp
White/Green Go wide tempo
White/Black Legacy aggro
Black/Green Explore go wide
Blue/Green Explore midrange
Blue/Red Cycling artifacts
White/Red Cycling aggro
That's all I have for now! If you actually read this far thank you so much, please feel free to leave questions, suggestions, etc. I plan to make another post talking more about the first short story/chapter of the actual story I'm working on for the plan, so that'll be fun.

minrathous-treviso choice: part one
The choice to save either Minrathous or Treviso, knowing that the other will suffer without your intervention, is actually Great; it’s a strong, bold move that establishes a sense of urgency and the scale of the threat you’re facing, with lasting consequences both for the settings and the companions tied to them. That said. The vision for Minrathous vs Treviso is this:
First of all there’s a warning before you take the quest that will trigger this plot on completion, telling you to go back and finish everything you want to before taking it because some quests and progression may be unavailable afterwards. Also, tying Davrin’s recruitment to this choice is a mistake — he’s the only Black companion in a game with a pretty racist player base, and a situation in which you Can’t recruit him until you’ve advanced significantly with three other companions disadvantages him further as a companion. Also, he’s a warrior, and the early game doesn’t have any warriors. So instead, Davrin is recruited early (you seek out a Warden as soon as you realise you’re dealing with Blight!), and given a few quests to clear up in the Wetlands, and Harding’s (re-)recruitment is moved back to trigger this scene — she’s an associate of yours who was out gathering information during the early portion of the game, and she’s run into trouble. As a fan favourite returning character, she comes into the game with goodwill that levels the playing field between her and the early game companions, and as a rogue she isn’t mechanically indispensable until her recruitment on higher difficulties since Lucanis is also recruited early.
When you return with Harding, Lucanis’s and Neve’s calls for help in their hometowns play out as normal, but in deciding where you go, two things are emphasised: 1) you’re splitting up your team of six into equal teams. The choice is not to Only Save One, but to decide who goes where, and which team you place yourself on; and 2) you bear the responsibility for this choice and how it shakes out, moreso than Lucanis and Neve who each insist on protecting their homes, because in Varric’s absence (more on this later) you are the leader, and your team does what You say. The overwhelming nature of the choice is emphasised; there is no way to distribute resources such that everyone is perfectly covered. There’s just too much.
The key to the choice is that both cities are complicated, often brutally hostile places marked deeply by inequality and oppressive rule, and both cities are the homes of millions of people. As a shadow dragon or a crow, do you have a responsibility to your home town; as the leader of the veilguard, is it fair to place that responsibility over your responsibility to protect All of Thedas against the blighted gods? Is it fair, as someone unattached to either place, to decide on the toss of a coin which millions will suffer and die? At this point, you’ve taken quests in both places, fighting slavers, cultists and magisters in Minrathous and navigating fractured crow rulership, unrest among fledgelings, and the encroachment of the Chantry in Treviso. The cities parallel each other and the problems facing other locations; complicated homes, where people lead complicated lives, towards which any rook can have complicated feelings.
The quests themselves still each have their blighted dragon, which is still unbeatable here as it flies away at half damage, but they aren’t commanded by their gods — the gods are almost trailing in their wake, Elgar’nan in Minrathous and Ghilain’nan in Treviso. They can be seen here for the first time, enormous, awe-inspiring, and undeniably in blinding agony, infected all the way through with blight. you can’t interact with the gods at all, they don’t even register your presence. But once the dragon fight is over, your work isn’t done — there are longer, more involved quests to finish. In Minrathous the Venatori have staged a coup and the templars have been mobilised en masse to take them; if you don’t intervene, then the city will either fall to the venatori or to the draconian measures they give the magisterium plausible justification to enforce. You have to help Neve and the Dragons shepherd panicking civilians to safety within the Shadow Dragon sanctum (or make it a choice: do you send them to a less secure location and keep the Shadow Dragons secret? or do you guarantee their protection but make the Dragons vulnerable?), destroy Venatori, provide aid for Dorian and Mae in the inner city. In Treviso, the mass outbreak of Blight has pushed the Chantry and the Crows into open conflict, and the city is threatened by Blight and by violence if you don’t get it under control. You have to close locks in the drowned district to contain the Blight in the canals, while fighting back darkspawn and ghouls; help civilians to safety either in ambassadorial buildings, turning to the Qunari presence for help, or in the chantry, which is markedly easier but results in turmoil and distrust in Qunari presence down the line. You find the dagger obtained at the ritual site instrumental in warding off the Blighted dragons and their gods; this is why Rook’s presence is the deciding factor in the outcome for each city.
(next - minrathous-treviso choice part two)
(previous - minrathous)
#datv#datv rewrite#datv spoilers#we had to split this one into two posts bc we had too much to say . and this isn't even the one we have the most to say about

You know what the most annoying thing about the Twists regarding the Elves in Inquisition was?
That all the twists, if taken on their own, would make for a really good story.
The reveals about Solas backstory and how him and his fellow God Kings rose, became decadent, warred with each other and fell, setting the stage for their transformation into the Old Gods is frankly speaking, some of the best lore that Dragon Age ever had, and lines up really well with how the world is structured while explaining how the Old Gods came to be, how the elves fell, and so on.
That the tevinter imperium when it conquered the nation of Arlathan was not the great imperial state lead by mighty mages their descendants liked to think they were, but instead a bunch of weaklings that needed years and years to take on one, measly city-state that had utterly obliterated itself in civil war.
There is so much great stuff here.
So where did it all go wrong?
The answer, is of course execution.
Inquisition overall is a great game... But man did it drop the ball so hard with the Elves that it's pretty much hard to believe that they will be able to tell a nuanced story about them in Dread Wolf.
Everything from the companions, to the world itself as the game presents , to retcons regarding mages that's there, not to tell a story about the elves, but to try and make the Templar vs mage conflict grey.
Starting with the companions, we have a great example of coming so, so close to greatness... and then falling right on it's face.
The game has two Elf companions, solas and Sera... and the contrast between them really illustrates the big picture with how incapable Inquisition is with trying to tell a nuanced picture with the elves.
Solas as a character is perfect. Love him or hate him, he is a fully fleshed out character with very clear, defined, understandable motives that makes sense to him.
And most importantly of all, his way of viewing the world is WRONG. The game acknowledges that he is wrong.
The entire story of where dragon age 4 is heading, is all about how the Dread wolf, for all his knowledge and intelligence and genuine virtues, is at the end of the day, a monster, who is willing to see the world burn to restore the Elves magic and immortality.
He is a racist, he is bigoted, and ultimately misguided. Despite all his development with the inquisitor, he does not manage to grow enough as a person that he manages to abandon his genocidal goals. And the game does not pretend othervise.
That is what makes the story of Solas rise to become the big villain of the sequel great.
There is no disconnect between the story, the characters, or the way the game wants us to view solas.
Solas is far, far more bigoted and close-minded than any of the dalish he so despises, and the game ultimately does not pretend othervise.
Which brings us to the opposite end of the elf spectrum with Sera.
Sera is a very disliked character by a lot of people, but by dalish and elf players/fans more than most.
Just like Solas, she is bigoted, racist, and ultimately misguided in her hatred of her fellow elves, whether they be city elves, or Dalish, or ancient elves.
And that frankly, would not be a problem if the game acknowledged that fact. If her character arc was about it, and either how she could not overcome her own issues, or actually managed to grow beyond them, she could have been a great character.
The problem is the fact that the game is not willing to handle this fact head on. Its not willing to come out and portray Sera as just as bigoted against her own kind as Solas is, and to treat this as a flaw.
Instead the game treats her as if her biggest flaw is that she's annoying, and not the fact that in a game that is in many ways about setting up the rise of the dread wolf, she is just as bad as Solas, just from a different origin point.
Sera should have been a mirror to Solas, both from a story point, as well as a thematic one, but unfortunately she is not.
Hell, she doesn't really overcome her racism either. The closest she comes to doing so, is basically burning out on hating the dalish and other elves in trespasser, not admitting she was actually wrong to hate them so much in the first place.
The game does not treat Sera's disdain for other elves and their culture as a problem, and it does not give a dalish inquisitor the option to tell her to go fuck herself on the topic that you are given with Solas if you really desire to do so.
You are given the option of kicking her out of the inquisition, but not actually stand up for the dalish or even city elves the way the player could against Morrigan's flemeth raised cruelty in origins, anders and Fenris obsessions with, and hatred for templars/mages in da2, or solas ideals in inquisition.
And thats a problem that really illustrates the bigger issue with the way Inquisition took what could have been a great story about the Elves and the reveals about their anceators, and frankly ruined it.
The dalish and city elvea were very thouroughly fleshed in both Origins, Awakening and DA2.
However, city elves largely managed to avoid being utterly destroyed by the narrative the way the Dalish were, for the simple reason that outside briala, we don't get much if any interaction with them at all, making them essentially a non show foe the game for the most part. They don't get a city elf inquisitor, and so we have no point of view to look at them from a pc perspective.
They got off much better than the dalish though.
Starting off with the arguably single worst thing in all of DAI is the retcon that Dalish clans, if there is more than two mages in a clan, sends off the third one alone in the wilderness to fend for themselves. This goes against absolutely everything that has ever been established about the Dalish, and worst of all, wasn't even an addition meant to demonize the dalish, instead being an addition to handwave away the obvious fact that the Dalish had a much better system than the human circles when it came to magic... Which in turn was made irrelevant by the fact the Avvar was later shown to have a much better and more effective solution to the possession question anyway.
It was, in essence, a pointless retcon, that overall only made the dalish look bad, and has now opened the door for the idea that most dalish clans acts like this, and will be portrayed so in future games.
Its bad, but unfortunately it was only the start.
The game goes out of its way to portray absolutely every single person who critices the dalish as having a point, that they brought on their own downfalls, even as they are being the most imperialistic, racist assholes imaginable, while the dalish inquisitor can only offer a token of defence for his people, a far cry from way origins allowed you to handle the same situation wheter your main ethnicity was ferelden, mage, city elf, dalish, casteless or dwarven noble.
But nowhere is it worse than the way the game handles the fall of the dales.
Now the actual lore you learn about it, is not bad. At all. I know some complain that the reveals that ameridan(and presumably other elves) worshipped both the creators and the maker, as well as the fact that the dalish unfortunately did have a bad relationahip with the rest of the world, in particular orlais, is bad storytelling, but i firmly disagree.
No the problem is the execution.
Ameridan is not wrong when he says that The Dales should not have distanced itself from the rest of the world, especially not in the face of a blight... But the Dales of his era were in turn not wrong when they argued that the Orlesians were little better than the imperium, and they would be completely right.
This is not a grey issue, its a grey and black issue.
Orlais was, and still is an evil, expansionist empire with 99% of its population living as serfs, that can be raped and beaten at will, little better than slaves.
The dales were the morally right side of the exalted march on the dales. No amount of new lore we learned in inquisition has changed that fact. We simply get the details fleshed out a bit more to add context.
Orlais was going to invade and enslave the elves anyway, as they proved through their actions against all their other, very much fellow Adrastian neighbors.
The problem is that you are not allowed to express this kind of point of view and stick to it like steel.
The characters you meet having the bigoted opinion that the dales ultimately brought on their own fate is NOT a bad thing in and out of itself... the problem is that you are not allowed to challenge that opinion the way you could challenge Lelliana's view of the dalish in origins, or the way you could tell both Anders and fenris to go fuck themselves on their extremist opinions all through da2, and ending that fuck you by killing them in the endgame.
And thats a real shame, because just looking at characters like cassandra's character development through Inquisition, you could easily have made a really compelling narrative put of a dalish inquisitor who stuck by his or her principles, and actually challenged the people they met's racist views on the dalish the way you could in origins, just with a more fleshed out and(unfortunately something way too many people just cannot emote to a character withouth) an actual voice to raise those arguments with.
I do genuinely like Inquisition, and i think it's overall a much better game than DA2... but man did they drop the ball with the elves so hard.
I feel so sorry for anyone who really got invested in the elves as their favorites factions, and i honestly don't think the elves will be handled particularly well in Dread wolf, especially as the only Dalish we are likely to see fleshed out will be the villains fighting for Solas.

Listen, this act was not my favourite there was so many character centric moments I thought we'd have here with the central cast, I wanted to explore Vis loneliness, her being without someone to protect, I wanted that explored, I wanted her to have her moment where she realises her value.
They gave me vander silco and vis mum (can't remember name) back story that just wasn't necessary at all, I didn't have questions about silco and his relationship to Vander, all of this was covered so satisfactory in season 1.
Isha to me was a very very on the nose plot device and while I was upset by her death, I felt relieved that there is one less character to take away the screen time from the main cast.
And please tell me I wasn't the only one who got CW vibes from the "Don't touch my daughter" and the Viktor in the cosmos scenes, like I cringed at times and Arcane has never ever made me cringe (and it has an imagine dragons song as it's theme so that's saying something) so I was pretty startled by it.
With only 1 more act to connect all these loose ends and give the characters WE ALL ACTUALLY LOVE some time to breathe and connect with us I'm anxious.
I don't mean to make this all about Caitlyn and Vi but they are my emotional heart of the show and I am praying the writers took their time and gave them the love they deserve in terms of emotional weight.
They said they wanted 2 seasons because they had a cohesive story they wanted to tell and all I have at the moment are doubts, it's very rushed, nothing has breathing room, things are set up and walked away from within one episode, like remember dictator caitlyn? The one that left vi in a ditch? Syke! she's fucken with my girl Vi again because????? Also she blue eye samurai'd for some reason as well? Like ??? I'm just?? Okay?? Caitlyn is so hot I'm willing to look past it but what ????? I like the sharp shooter marksman, one shot one kill, why is she spinning around on the floor with a spear ?? Girl get up take that red shit off.
Also Mels brother but not brother but secret sister? What are we DOING????
Where is Ekko?
Evil corrupted Viktor vs noxus vs piltover vs zaun I'm ready...
But please God give me my flawless emotionally charged writing back.
#arcane#im rambling i dunno#it is still the best show ive ever watched but if you had the money and the time there was no harm in making a 3rd season to flesh this out#i have faith

Okay it's been about two weeks to cook on my initial reaction to finishing DATV, and I feel like, for the most part, it still stands?
Like smooches to all the companions - you're not really the problem in this. I also love my Rook. Adore you, Taash and Davrin extra special. Assan, my son, my beloved, you are perfect.
But aside from diehard DA fans either defending or detracting Veilguard within an inch of their lives, imo the defining problem of the game is sets up these interesting, compelling, and tasty conflicts we've come to expect with the franchise but instead of like, you know, delivering on that, playing out that tension, eking it out for angst, lols, rage, and tears, asking serious moral quandaries of the player... they just… resolve them? create false equivalencies? say "here is your choice - it will have consequences!" but really the outcome is mostly the same?
So yeah, it's really just a lack of stakes on anything and everything important. And I think that's a missed opportunity as a writer myself - bc while some people may see the removal of real world social ills in a fantasy setting as being more "inclusive" (a take I as a person with multiple marginalized identities don't really understand and frankly sounds to me like some corporate BS), what BioWare really is doing is attempting to rebrand its signature series into something it isn't : a world without complication or friction or messy realities.
The Bad Guys are literally straight up Evil - the Good Guys are So Good. Whether you choose to doom Treviso or Minrathous, the idea that the Crows are no longer being child-enslaving assassin mafia houses (Rip Zevran and your revenge), the fact BioWare completely avoided any depictions or barely mentioned the horrible mistreatment and enslavement of the elves in Tevinter, even going so far as to paint the elves as partially at fault for that bc of their shitty gods??? (good lord, there's too much to unpack there), nothing truly matters.
DA was never just simplistic, good vs evil fantasy, so why start now?
Like any good storyteller knows that stories are fundamentally about change whether that's changing a society or your own personal mindset. And more often than not, conflict is a result of that! Change is hard! Some people don't like change! That's not to say conflict must be physical or violent - sometimes the most interesting stories are ones where the hero is a different person that the one they started out as.
DATV literally changed so much about the lore and mechanics of the world (which okay fine), but everybody just rolled with the punches like it was nothing. Like, for ex, "The Maker doesn't exist and Andraste is Mythal"??? Damn son, you just got proof that literally thousands of years of abusive religious dogma that has been used to terrifying discriminatory ends in both the North and South of Thedas is a lie. And everyone just accepts that????
And for some of us who experience and live with discrimination every day, who come from abusive families, and are religious trauma survivors, part of the appeal of previous Dragon Age games, for me, is that it didn't run away from those issues. It made characters like me human and fallible where at the end of the day, yeah you can end the Fifth Blight but there is no right answer to who should rule Ferelden bc monarchy is a fucked up system that ruins everyone's lives - here is the quintessential "Chosen One" archetype who doesn't fucking want to be chosen (DAO); no you can't always save the world (re: Kirkwall) and those you love, and violent change of an abusive system can also blow up in your face (DA2), and no you're not in control of how other people perceive you, especially in how celebrity and status can dehumanize you to a point where you don't even recognize yourself (DAI). Like you could still be a hero in these games without being perfect. Whereas with DATV, I just felt... nothing. Like, it was a fun way (sometimes, not Weisshaupt jfc) to spend 80 hours. I learned that Solas and Mythal are even more horrible that I could possibly imagine.
but I didn't feel like Veilguard left me with anything like catharsis so I could go back and face the Merediths and Venatori and Loghains of the real world. it was just that - you defeated the Bad Guys! Game Over. Here's Varric Mufasa'ed in the sky (so very sad). Talk about a totally ridiculous misuse of the One Guy whose whole shtick is how you can use narrative as a weapon.
These are just my thoughts, and ofc everyone's allowed to like or dislike the game as they please, but I don't feel like it's appropriate to give Bioware (and their shitty treatment of their creative team) a free pass on a frankly subpar narrative ten years in the making that did not deliver the emotional beats it was meant to.

Thriving vs Survivng, am I right, lads?
Bloom and Stella eventually get married, Daphne and the woman with her, Nadia, an oc I made and have mentioned a few times, get married with Daphne to be next in line as Queen of Domino, and Aisha and Musa get married one day, but are currently in this pic going through some Shit that’s putting a huge damper on that.
More info on everyone and political drama stuff below the cut!
Bloom and Stella are thriving.
Polyamory is super duper normalized in a decent amount of places, and is considered a norm on Solaria. Stella is eventually married both to Brandon and Bloom. Both of Bloom’s sets of parents love Stella and are incredibly happy for her. After much talk and deliberation between Daphne, Bloom, Marion, and Oritel to see how Bloom and Daphne are feeling after Daphne is healed up and in a good place and has processed shit, it’s decided Daphne will continue as heir and shall be next in line for rulership. Bloom meanwhile shall continue her role as guardian fairy, Holder of The Flame, and eventually upon her marriage to Stella will be Queen Consort of Solaria. She has a lot more flexibility this way too to go where she feels most comfortable, between Earth and other areas in The Magical Realm. Oritel and Marion don’t want Bloom or Daphne to feel trapped or be stifled with immense pressure if they can help it, and Bloom is still most comfortable on Earth, so having the option to go back and forth is important and something Marion and Oritel want her to not feel cut off from it, a mistake they made early on when they first got brought back from their stasis.
Formal picture of Nadia finally! An oc from Earth I made who’s Daphne’s gf and eventual wife. I thought it would be nice for Daphne to not worry about contextualizing her grief and trauma with someone who already had preconceived notions of her from myths and legends over the last 1000+ years.
Nadia: so you’re Bloom’s sister! That’s so cool! Do you have magic too?
Daphne, who at this point while not the holder of the flame anymore is still an incredibly powerful fire elemental who retains her nymphix and could hand bloom’s ass to her and call upon The Dragon at will whenever she wants: uh, yeah, some I guess.
Bloom: glad to see being a useless lesbian is a universal trait instead of just earth specific
Daphne: exCUSE ME-
Royal balls be like “The Incarnation of God Itself, heir to The Great Pillar of all of Magic Domino, The Dragon Reborn, Supreme Nymph of Magix, Princess Daphne, and Nadia, Barista on Tuesday, Thursday, and Weekends, of the planet Earth”
Like, oh boy, THEE DAPHNE, and Nadia from Starbucks.
Also don’t worry it’s not actually a Starbucks. It’s a small local cafe and bakery spot that Bloom really likes. Daphne went with her once, saw Nadia, and went 👀. Daphne doesn’t even like coffee also she just goes there for Nadia and was too anxious to ask about any other drinks so she just gets what Bloom got, would makes Bloom, who is not at all rich on Earth, pay for it, and then didn’t actually drink it.
Also, Nadia is definitely wearing heels here.
She’s only around 5’9 or ~175cm, while as I’ve mentioned before, Daphne is 6’7 or ~200cm.
She like to wear different heels and go “ok NOW how close am I to being taller than you” or sometimes go “ok, I think I beat you this time” when she tries on a new pair
She’s never close obviously and they both know that because hehe funny joke, but Daphne will still go “oh, you just might’ve this time.”
Musa and Aisha meanwhile are Struggling. Not only is Musa someone who is already insanely anti-monarch in her governmental views, even one that operates more as a democracy, the government she’s working with can’t stand her.
I’ve mentioned in these posts how marriage works on Andros, and Musa is Not It. She’s not even a Land Androsian, which would’ve been considered a bit of a scandal because of how their government structure is set up. No it’s much worse, for oh no, she’s not an Androsian at all! Truly horrific (I say this sarcastically, but that’s genuinely what the nobles and a chunk of the population feel).
Musa is doing what she can to appease Androsian court.
Gold is a big fucking no no on Andros, but she doesn’t want to give that up since it’s a really important part of her culture.
Aisha is standing with her on that, but it doesn’t make it easier to deal with the assholes in court.
She’s even muted her reds to lean more towards purples and blues.
Muting the reds was a huge olive branch of sorts and she’s pissed about it and doesn’t like doing it (but she did it, and it wasn’t even appreciated, but WHATEVER), but she refuses to get rid of the golds (good for her).
Aisha has gold nail polish here also. She’s doing what she can, and eventually is just gonna say fuck it and start wearing straight up gold with her silvers and tell Musa to get back in the bright red or so help me-
Stella let’s Aisha borrow her stash specifically when she first start and immediately commissions some custom ones done for Aisha’s measurements.
